After a long illness I was practically a shut-in for several years. I felt the need to earn my livelihood, but I had had no particular training for work; and my long seclusion had made me feel cut off from contacts of every kind. I was very much discouraged.

A neighbor loaned me a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and took me with her to a Church of Christ, Scientist. She also told me about the work of Christian Science practitioners. I went to see one of them and requested treatment. A little later I was offered a good position.

Although the work was of a kind entirely new to me and one which ordinarily required extensive training, I accepted the position and asked the practitioner to help me. The different phases of the work unfolded to me so that I was able to do what was required. During the years I remained with that organization I was promoted several times to positions of more responsibility and was given an increase in salary each time. This success was due to my faithful study of Christian Science.
