The Joy of Teaching The Tiny Ones

[From a teacher in a branch church Sunday School]

Teaching the tiny tots in Sunday School is really a joy. Some teachers, however, are reluctant to undertake the work, for they fear it might be difficult to make the lessons simple enough or that they might not be able to keep the children still and quiet.

It is not difficult, and the children will be contented and happy if they are allowed to have their part in the lesson. We do not need to talk down to them. What we need to do is to be childlike with them. We talk with them, not to them. They love to talk about God, and their confidence and trust in their dear Father-Mother will teach the teacher many lessons.

With the tiny ones it is well to take up any topic that may be uppermost in their thought. For instance, in my class, Charles one Sunday was eager to say, "I met a puss cat when I was coming to Sunday School." I immediately turned away from the story I had meant to begin with and remarked briefly about the puss cat Charles had met.
