Guarding Our Religious Freedom

During the past year, through our united protests, our Christian Science Reading Rooms were delivered from possible regimentation under the Sales and Use Tax Law, which was passed by our state legislature. The law, as amended, now exempts not only sales of the Bible, but "also other books and literature and utensils, used in and by established churches for religious instruction and prayer."

Our request for this exemption was based upon the Constitution of the United States, Amendments, Article I, which provides in part that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof...."
