"PARENTS SHOULD TEACH THEIR CHILDREN"

Parents who send their children to a Christian Science Sunday School are very grateful for the privilege. This is easily understandable, for there the children learn of God and how to heal as Jesus taught. It is interesting to note, however, that parents should supplement the teachings of the Sunday School by working at home with the children, for Mary Baker Eddy tells us in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 236)."Parents should teach their children at the earliest possible period the truths of health and holiness." What joy and fruition come to both parents and children as this admonition of our Leader's is obeyed.

In one family four children regularly start the day by first studying, individually, their Sunday School lessons, and then with their parents they gather together to devote fifteen minutes before breakfast to what they call a chapel period. Chapel always starts promptly at the same time. The family are called together by the playing and singing of one of Mrs. Eddy's hymns. Each member of the family joins the singing as he enters the room. All are present before the hymn is finished.

The procedure of the main part of this period is varied from time to time in order to maintain a sense of freshness. At one time each child shared some inspiring thought gleaned from his individual study. At another period each child planned and conducted the chapel for one day each week, choosing usually to read or tell some Bible story or to read an article from the Christian Science Sentinel. At another time the family studied, for many mornings, Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, and one summer they read aloud the book, "A Child's Life of Mary Baker Eddy" by Ella H. Hay.
