It has been over forty years since Christian Science was first introduced to our family. My mother had been told by her attending physician that she would have to undergo an operation if she wanted to live. About that time a schoolmate of mine brought a paper-wrapped package to school one day and gave it to me, saying that her grandmother had said it would make my mother well. When unwrapped in our home it proved to be one of the early editions of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. My mother started to read the book immediately, and during the second reading she was completely healed.

My mother went to a woman who lived nearby and asked if she knew anything about this book. She proved to be a Christian Scientist, and she taught my mother how to read and study the Lesson-Sermon as given to us in the Christian Science Quarterly. Our family consisted of six children, and we were all sent to the nearest Christian Science Sunday School.

I had the privilege of attending this Sunday School for almost three years, and I feel that my foundation in the truth was laid during that time. I also joined The Mother Church and a branch church. When I became twenty years old and had to leave, the Sunday School as a pupil I began teaching there.
