"Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe" (John 4:48).

When quite a young girl, we lived next door to one of my mother's closest friends. This woman was a Christian Scientist, and although my parents were not, they were in no way opposed to it. I spent many happy hours in this friend's home, and only in later years realized why I did. In one room I recall there was a large picture of Mary Baker Eddy, and there were always Christian Science periodicals on the table. Many times I found this friend reading a little book which I realized later was "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. A seed was thus planted.

Years later, after I had been blessed with a family of my own, things began to happen. First there was discord, then lack, the feeling of insecurity, and ultimately illnesses of various kinds, until I felt I was truly in the pit of despair.
