The psychology of making friends— a proved, impartial system

FRIENDSHIP

The patriarch Abraham won a unique honor inasmuch as he was known as "the Friend of God" (James 2:23). Many times in the Bible, God is referred to as the friend of man, but in no other instance is any character mentioned as God's friend.

A significant fact relating to this honor conferred upon Abraham is that he was the only one, as far as the record reveals, who saw and received the blessing of Melchisedec, "King of peace; ... made like unto the Son of God" (Hebr. 7:2,3).

Before deciding in what way these two facts may be considered to have a bearing on each other, let us consider faithfulness as one of the qualities most vital to a true and lasting friendship. In the Glossary to "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 579) our Leader defines "Abraham" in part as "fidelity."
