New York, New York (Fifth Church)

Fifth Church of Christ, Scientist, New York, 9 East Forty-third Street, which had its beginning in 1901 when a group of Christian Scientists held services in the vicinity of Madison Avenue and Fifty-ninth Street, was dedicated at three services m its auditorium on Sunday, May 15, 1949—the first in the morning and the others in the afternoon and evening.

The church built the auditorium as part of a twenty-one-story office building in 1920, receiving a ninety-nine-year lease. The commercial portion of the structure became known as the Canadian Pacific Building.

The church freed itself from all indebtedness on its home this spring.

Church services began in the present edifice on June 5, 1921.
