Christian Science Committees on Publication REPORT ON RELATIONS WITH THE CLERGY

[From annual reports]

Victoria, Australia

Very few references to Christian Science have been made by ministers of religion in their sermons. A Protestant lay preacher, charged with responsibility for organizing a convention, used in an advertising folder without permission or recognition Mrs. Eddy's "Daily Prayer" from the Manual of The Mother Church (Art. VIII, Sect. 4). When visited at his home he expressed great regret for having infringed the copyright law and promised to draw the attention of those at the opening ceremony to the fact that he had used Mrs. Eddy's words without knowing their author or realizing he was committing a breach of copyright law by using them. He stated, however, that the ideas expressed in Mrs. Eddy's prayer were exactly what he had hoped he might come across when he was looking in the showcase of a Christian Science Reading Room, and he had copied them from the Manual on display there.
