Hearkening to the Word of God lifts scales from the eyes and dullness from the ears

SIGHT AND HEARING ARE FACULTIES OF DIVINE MIND

"The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the Lord hath made even both of them" (Prov. 20:12). God makes man to hear, and so he hears. He makes man to see, and so he sees. God, divine Mind, does not give man a limited amount of sight and hearing; His bestowals are unlimited and perfect, like Himself. The man of His creating, His image and likeness, has no power to limit himself. God's man, the real man, has only the power to reflect Mind's infinitude and to be what God creates him to be. Man's God-given sight and hearing are here for all to enjoy and manifest today.

Man as God's reflection possesses all the faculties of the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-hearing Mind. Thus he needs no material aid to improve his sight and hearing. Pieces of glass and human devices cannot add to his ability to see and hear spiritually, for he ever sees and hears with the flawless faculties of Spirit, perfect Mind. These spiritual faculties cannot be lost or depleted, but are ever present and eternally whole.

Mary Baker Eddy defines "eyes" on page 586 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," as "spiritual discernment,—not material but mental;" and "ears," on page 585, as "not organs of the so-called corporeal senses, but spiritual understanding."
