In the one hundredth...

In the one hundredth Psalm we read (verses 1,4): "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. ... Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name." I have found in the study and application of Christian Science that health and success flow naturally into our lives through the open door of gratitude and thanksgiving.

In 1916 I bought a copy of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, at the request of a practitioner whom I had called upon to help me. As I read and studied the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly many false beliefs disappeared and I ceased to use drugs. The continual use of laxatives, pills, and salves, which our family thought necessary, just fell away, and I never thought of them until one day when I cleaned out the medicine cabinet and saw them there. I threw them away, and they were never replaced.

In 1922 I joined a small Christian Science Society which was being organized in our neighborhood, and I became an active worker. I soon learned the meaning of true happiness as defined in our textbook (p. 57), "Happiness is spiritual, born of Truth and Love." It was such a joy to learn about Christian Science and church organization at the same time. I had many opportunities to put into practice what I was learning.
