"THE LESSON OF TO-DAY"

A study of the Bible and of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and other writings by Mary Baker Eddy spiritualizes thought. When thought is spiritualized, becomes conscious of spiritual realities, one is aware of God's ever-presence, in which there is no evil. Evil's boast that it is the mind of man finds no entrance to the consciousness which realizes something of God's ever-presence and all-inclusiveness and of man's oneness with Him.

When Cain, "a tiller of the ground"—material belief—brought unto God his offering, God had no respect for it. Material-mindedness, which conceives itself in its own limitation, is never acceptable to God, who is infinite Spirit.

Abel, as "a keeper of sheep," expressed devotion, unselfishness, and obedience, and these qualities were acceptable unto God. These spiritual qualities, however, did not save Abel from the abuse of material-mindedness—envy, jealousy, selfishness, covetousness, greed, hatred the mental assassin. Had Abel realized the unreal nature of the belief of life and selfhood in matter and understood Love's all-inclusive, infinite presence and man's inseparableness from it, he would have overcome evil's claim to make man and then destroy him.
