It is with gratitude that I vouch...

It is with gratitude that I vouch for the healing and regenerating power of Christian Science. The fact that God alone can heal us, however much we may think that material methods heal, is illustrated in an experience I had during the period of my captivity in Germany.

One morning I awoke feeling rather miserable; also, a small growth had become apparent on my eyelid. I soon became very fearful, because I had had a similar growth some years before, which had been removed by a surgeon. Within less than a week this second growth had become fixed and had increased in size. I continued daily to do my mental work as we are taught in Christian Science, but fairly soon discovered that I was devoting too much effort to destroying a material condition rather than to handling the wrong mental condition in which I found myself.

Finally I looked up a quotation in "Christian Science versus Pantheism," one of Mary Baker Eddy's shorter writings, which reads thus (pp. 5, 6): "Knowing that evil is a lie, and, as the Scripture declares, brought sin, sickness, and death into the world, Jesus treated the lie summarily. He denied it, cast it out of mortal mind, and thus healed sickness and sin. His treatment of evil and disease, Science will restore and establish,—first, because it was more effectual than all other means; and, second, because evil and disease will never disappear in any other way." The realization that disease is nothing comes as we learn to recognize the allness of God divine Love, as taught in Christian Science. The gaining, on my part, of this realization caused the growth to disappear in ten to twelve days.
