In your recent issue appeared on the last page under the heading, "Spiritualist is Acquitted of Fraud," a report in which the defending counsel is stated to have said that "spiritualism was a recognized science in Europe and America."

The report goes on to say that the counsel "quoted several books and scientists, including Mrs. Mary Baker Eddy, who he said had many followers." That the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science has many followers is true, but to imply that she was a spiritualist is untrue. In the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy writes (p.71), "I never could believe in spiritualism." She adds (p.80), "I entertain no doubt of the humanity and philanthropy of many Spiritualists, but I cannot coincide with their views."
