Brisbane, Queensland, Australia (First Church).

The new edifice of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Brisbane, situated on North Quay, was dedicated on Sunday, February 11, 1945.

In the years 1899 and 1900 students of Christian Science met in private homes to read the Lesson-Sermon and hold services.

It was after a Wednesday evening meeting on February 27, 1901, that a small group of students assembled at "Richmond Villa," a private home in Upper Roma Street, to organize a Christian Science Society.

To meet the need for increased accommodation, services and Sunday school were held on the first floor of Edwards' Building in Adelaide Street, Petrie Bight.

In December, 1901, the society resolved to form First Church of Christ, Scientist, Brisbane. During the years that followed, several properties were purchased or rented but eventually outgrown by the overflowing congregations.

The cornerstone of the present church building was laid on January 11, 1940, and opening services were held on August 4 of that year. The attendance at the special dedication services was large, and included many Australian and United States service men and women.—The Clarion.
