On page 11 of "Rudimental Divine Science" Mrs. Eddy says, "Sickness is the schoolmaster, leading you to Christ." In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." on page 583, our Leader defines "Christ" as "the divine manifestation of God, which comes to the flesh to destroy incarnate error."

This searching for the Christ has, indeed, been the schoolmaster to me. While I had known about Christian Science all my life, my father having been healed of the drinking habit when I was a child, I made no effort to use it or to learn more about it until I sought its healing qualities for one of our children.

Just prior to turning completely to Christian Science, I sank into a mire of despondency. I was pursued by the fear that I should never be able to comprehend the real, the true, the metaphysical, or Christ Science. I seemed to grasp it intellectually but not spiritually. At this point I had a beautiful healing, and my gratitude and joy for this healing served to uplift my thought.
