"Because ye are strong"

[Written Especially for Young People]

"I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one." So wrote the Apostle John to the young Christians of his day; and he follows this salutation with wise and loving counsel on the value of spiritual thinking and living as compared with the futility of materialism.

Great were the tests of spiritual strength, faith, and loyalty demanded of those early Christians. Cruelly persecuted on all sides, the organized religion of their fathers and the powerful Roman Empire demanding their spiritual and political allegiance, these followers of the Christ were sorely tried, even unto death. For their pioneer work in establishing Christianity as a religion and for their unswerving devotion to the truth, we should be deeply grateful.

Humanly speaking, our loyalty and courage are always being tested, and continually decisions have to be made. The challenge, "Choose you this day whom ye will serve," has rung down the ages; and in the degree that men have chosen and stood for Principle, to that extent have they experienced happiness and enduring peace.
