Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he hath...

"Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy" (Psalms 107:2).

Christian Science came into our home in my infancy at the time of the healing of my mother of quick consumption. She weighed only seventy pounds, was unable to stand without aid, and was subject to frequent hemorrhages. The truth of this divine Science was so clear to her that from the time of her healing she was able to prove its efficacy for the family without any other help. Since then there have been many proofs of the healing power of Christian Science when understood, and included in the list of redemptions "from the hand of the enemy" are the healings of erysipelas, black diphtheria, tonsillitis, athlete's foot, ptomaine poisoning, influenza, lumbago, and streptococcic infection in the throat, and the return of lost or stolen articles.

While the truth, as understood in Christian Science, had been proved in many instances through my own efforts, there had been a tendency to lean on my mother. When this was no longer possible, there came the realization and conviction that since "God is no respecter of persons," it was my privilege and duty to prove it. Study of the Bible and the writings of our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, was pursued with renewed vigor and enthusiasm, consecration and devotion, and with the humble desire to learn more about God and man's relationship to Him, in order to be of greater service to mankind.
