Among the Churches

Pampa, Texas (First Church).—The Sunday morning service of First Church of Christ, Scientist, of Pampa, October 9, 1938, included the dedication of the church home, which was built in 1933. It is the rule of all Christian Science churches that they may dedicate only when they are free of debt.

In 1926 a group of Christian Scientists met in Pampa to read the Lesson-Sermons given in the Christian Science Quarterly. It soon became necessary to have larger quarters, and services were held in a public hall.

Recognition as a Christian Science Society was granted by The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, on July 9, 1928, and the local Christian Science Society became First Church of Christ, Scientist, of Pampa, in June, 1935.

The present site for the church edifice was purchased in March, 1931, and work began on the building in July, 1933; the first service was held Wednesday evening, September 13, of the same year. The building is located at the corner of Frost and Cook Streets.—Pampa Daily News.
