Staying the Mind on God

"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee." None are excluded from this loving promise voiced by Isaiah, but the conditions of the promise must be fulfilled. Immortal Truth sustains us as we rely, rest, and insist upon the allness of God and the consequent nothingness of evil. No wavering is permitted by the terms of this agreement. Turning from Him and trusting in material conditions would mean discouragement for us, through losing our grasp of the spiritual fact that because God is the only cause, the only real effect is good.

Christian Science reveals the necessity of clinging to God at all times and under all circumstances. Nor will anyone who stays his thought upon God, through spiritual understanding, need to look to matter for help, for there is no other foundation than that of Spirit. Christian Science reveals God, divine Love, to be ever present. God, therefore, in the words of Jude, "is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy." Sooner or later we all must learn to relinquish human supports and prove the spiritual truth that every idea of God is eternally sustained, provided for, and blessed by the divine Mind. The demonstration of the real man's oneness with Truth, Life, and Love is the heritage of those who consciously, and constantly, stay their thought on God as divine Principle, which Christian Science reveals Him to be.

Because Christ Jesus leaned upon Spirit, not matter, he was victor over sin, disease, death. He trusted the eternal God, and could not be persuaded or driven into belief in any power apart from Spirit. He obtained and retained that peace of Mind which is based upon the understanding that God, good, is omnipotent, omnipresent, omniactive. Because of this eternal verity, he knew that man is now and forever held in his perfect state by the divine All-power. He realized clearly that man has never fallen into a condition of matter, involving disease or degradation. God is Love, and the Master knew that man, in his entire being, is ever subject to the complete control which Love holds over all.
