A statement made at a meeting of Bromley Women Citizens' Association,...

Bromley and West Kent Mercury

A statement made at a meeting of Bromley Women Citizens' Association, kindly meant, but not strictly correct, calls for reply. The speaker implied that Christian Scientists affirm the allness of good and yet ignore evil; but this is not the case. Christian Scientists dispose of evil by intelligent realization and application of good.

To dispel darkness in a room it may be necessary to draw up a blind. To stand in the dark and declare it is not dark is contrary to common sense, even as it is to Christian Science. Darkness must be intelligently dispelled. If fear, ignorance, or sin darken human consciousness, these can be removed only by the light of spiritual understanding; the understanding of love, health, and holiness, inherent characteristics of the real or spiritual man. Mrs. Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 290): "Perfection is gained only by perfection. They who are unrighteous shall be unrighteous still, until in divine Science Christ, Truth, removes all ignorance and sin."
