From Letters, Substantially as Published

In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures"...

Daily Journal,

In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 587), Mrs. Eddy defines "God" in the following words: "The great I AM; the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, all-loving, and eternal; Principle; Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love; all substance; intelligence."

Multitudes of deep-thinking people all over the world have been released from the bondage of sickness, sin, sorrow, lack, and discords of every kind, through the understanding of God which this definition sets forth and which is reiterated throughout the writings of Mary Baker Eddy.

After her discovery, in 1866, of the Christ-principle through which Jesus accomplished his many wonderful healings, and through which she herself was healed of the effects of an injury which it was thought would prove fatal, Mrs. Eddy devoted her life to giving to the world the doctrine which she named Christian Science. That she is considered by thoughtful people to be a great religious leader is shown by the result of a poll sponsored a few years ago by the National Council of Women, in which the name of Mary Baker Eddy led the list of twelve women making the most valuable contribution to American progress in the last one hundred years.
