Christ's Government

[Original article in German]

When, shortly before the crucifixion, our great Master, Christ Jesus, spoke to his disciples about the duties of his followers, he explained to them the various signs which point to the opposition of carnal or material thinking and the final victory of the Christ, the spiritual idea.

In "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 99) Mrs. Eddy says: "In no other one thing seemed Jesus of Nazareth more divine than in his faith in the immortality of his words. He said, 'Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away;' and they have not." How could the Master utter such words in the face of the difficulties which confronted him? Because he was clearly conscious of the supremacy of God, Spirit, his heavenly Father. He so clearly comprehended his divine sonship with God that the assumptions of evil could not dim his pure recognition of ever-present divine Love.

History has confirmed Jesus' statement quoted above. Priestcraft, human will, ignorance, pride, and envy have sought again and again to darken or destroy the Christ-idea which our Master taught and lived so perfectly and surpassingly. These exertions of error continue in the present and strive to gain ground. But all false thinking is inherently powerless, and must at length prove fruitless.
