Guidance

No thought of mine shall fetter thee,
Nor human will prevent
Thy going forth where God will lead
To give thee sweet content.

I cannot bind by wish of mine—
I would not if I could—
God governs thee, and tenderly
Directs thy path toward good.

For good through all predominates,
By Love's infinity;
Unhampered by the plea of earth,
Truth guides unerringly.

This guidance is assured to all,
However fierce the storm,
If we but yield our selfishness
And to God's will conform.
