It is with fond recollections and profound gratitude that I look back over the years to my first physical healing in Christian Science. The occasion was at a time when I was much in need of spiritual enlightenment, and fortunately I had heard enough of the good about Christian Science to be receptive to its teachings and willing to test its healing efficacy.

Bedridden for three days with a severe attack of influenza, I had suffered with a fever and high temperature, and not finding any relief from material remedies I turned for help to Christian Science. While I was entirely ignorant of the means employed to effect a healing in Christian Science, nevertheless I had heard from time to time of the marvelous cures attributed to its healing power through prayer. I had heard that there is a law of God that is applicable to the healing of sickness; that this law is ever present, unchangeable, and available now to deliver men from bondage; that it is their inalienable right and unrestricted privilege to come into consonance with this law, if they so desire. I had heard it said that Mind, not matter, governs man, and that health is a condition of Mind, not a condition of matter. These were the seeds of Truth that had been planted in my consciousness long before I became ill. In my low mental state these thoughts recurred to me, and when those about me asked what might be done to relieve my suffering, I said, "Let us try Christian Science." Immediately a practitioner was consulted, absent treatment was given, and in a remarkably short time a change for the better took place. I went into a peaceful sleep—sleep I had so much desired. Quiet and rest prevailed. Soon the fever left me, my temperature became normal, and those about me could see the transformation. I awoke feeling much better, desiring nourishment, and I was completely healed.

The very first words in the Preface to our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, are, "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, today is big with blessings." Since that healing came to me I have endeavored to follow in the straight and narrow path of right thinking, and "the sustaining infinite" has brought me many blessings. The spiritual understanding that Christian Science has given me far transcends in value its physical healings. These physical healings have been but the result of increased spiritual development.
