In Paths of Righteousness

Give me, O God, a clearer, fuller vision,
That I may see through mists of false belief,
And in Thy light know Spirit's omnipresence,
Wherein man dwells secure from fear and grief.

Help me, O God, to tread the holy highway
Of unselfed loving—this the Master's way;
Barring my thought to error's subtle pleadings,
Thus making room for Truth to bless each day.

Teach me, O God, to sing when days seem darkest,
When vain suggestions clamor to be heard.
A song of praise, like gladsome rays of sunlight,
Reveals the changeless power of Thy Word.

I pray, O God, to learn the needed lesson
Of patient striving to obey Thy will.
To harden not my heart—in quiet meekness
Rebuke the senses' claims with, Peace, be still.

Thy law, O God, is one of constant progress
As, step by step, we prove Thy perfect plan.
Above the dream of mortal selfhood rising,
We wake to find all good belongs to man.
