Signs of the Times

[Editorial in the Herald, Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada]

Christianity is not following the easy path along which our inclination takes us. We cannot limit our Christianity to mere observances whereby we seek to show ourselves to be Christians by merely doing the formal things. The Christianity which is self-satisfied with itself, and which, accordingly, breeds the spirit of self-righteousness, is not the true Christianity which Christ [Jesus] taught. It is not the Christianity indicated in the words, "Follow me." Our Christianity needs testing, and it is for us, if we wish to become genuine followers of Christ, for after all this is true Christianity, to put our Christianity to the test. This will be a salutary exercise.
