Baltimore Evening Sun

In an article the writer again couples Christian Science with astrology, phrenology, and chiropractic. Even the most superficial inquiry should reveal that Christian Science is in no way similar to the systems mentioned. However, this writer also states that one who has "fallen for" the new penology is ready to "proceed gloriously to ... Christian Science."

The prison work being done by Christian Scientists is not motivated by any belief in psychiatry or in the new penology, but is in response to the commands of our blessed Saviour that we minister to those in prison.

These services are conducted in the Maryland penitentiary and other penal institutions with continued good results. But to avoid misunderstanding let me state that Christian Science does not teach that crime should go unpunished. It teaches quite the contrary. At the same time it also declares that even the worst of men can be saved through the applied understanding of Christ.
