After continuous treatment by physicians, who finally said that they could relieve but not cure the patient, a member of my family was healed in Christian Science, and it was then that I became interested. Through this healing we learned that God is the real Physician, and He has been our only physician for the past fifteen years. During that time we have had many beautiful healings and have enjoyed more peace and happiness than ever before.

I learned the difference between human will and divine Mind's influence through the healing of the smoking habit. I had smoked for about thirty years; and at different times during that period stopped smoking by the use of will-power, but each time after six months the desire to smoke was as strong as the day I stopped. When the healing came to me through Christian Science, however, the desire immediately left me, and has never for an instant returned during the thirteen years since I was healed.

I also had another healing that refuted the oft-repeated claim that Christian Science is all right for nervous trouble, but will not heal severe sickness. While superintending the dismantling of an industrial plant shortly after the war, I jumped from a machine, landed on a piece of pipe, and sprained an ankle so badly that fear at first suggested that it was broken. Fortunately I was alone, and while lying where I fell, I immediately started declaring "the scientific statement of being," as found on page 468 of Science and Health, and in about thirty minutes I was able to rise and walk to the office. By that time the ankle had started to swell and discolor, but I continued to declare the truth, and within four days the healing was complete. This meant much to me, for I had played baseball in my young manhood and frequently had suffered sprained ankles from sliding into bases. It always had been necessary for me to use a cane or crutches for from two to four weeks, depending on the severity of the sprain. This was the worst sprain I had ever experienced, but it was completely healed in four days; and I then realized that divine Love, as taught in Christian Science, is available at all times and under all conditions, and meets all human needs. I recalled the promise of Christ Jesus, "Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world."
