Gratitude for all that Christian Science has done for me, for the many blessings received and the peace and comfort it has brought into my life, prompts me to give this testimony to the healing power of Christian Science. On page 449 of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mrs. Eddy, we find these words: "A grain of Christian Science does wonders for mortals, so omnipotent is Truth." A few weeks after reading the textbook through for the first time I proved this statement to be true. While preparing dinner one day, I lost my balance and my hand plunged into a kettle of boiling water. As it did so I thought, What shall I do? for it seemed very necessary to continue with the work I was doing. Then the thought came, Now is the opportunity to test Christian Science; and as I removed my hand from the water I declared that there is no sensation in matter. I put my hand behind me, declaring the truth as best I could for about fifteen minutes, when all pain ceased and only a slight redness around the thumb remained; there was no soreness whatever.

Our revered Leader also tells us in the textbook (p. 547), "A simple statement of Christian Science, if demonstrated by healing, contains the proof of all here said of Christian Science." Science has healed me of colds and grippe. Teeth have been filled and extracted without pain. An attack of neuralgia with severe pain, which occurred one night, was overcome in less than half an hour by applying the little understanding I had gained of Christian Science; and a growth on the nose disappeared in four or five days through the loving help of a practitioner. A few years ago I had attacks of pain which became more frequent and severe until I could retain little food and became very weak. Help was asked for, and through the patient work of a practitioner the condition was gradually overcome and finally healed. Scrofulous humor, which had appeared every spring for many years, was completely healed through the reading of Science and Health.

I am grateful for the privilege of teaching in a Christian Science Sunday School, for the blessing of serving as librarian in a Christian Science Reading Room and in other branches of church activity; for the consecrated work of the practitioners; for the Board of Lectureship, and for the faithful, loyal work of the Board of Directors of The Mother Church. While the physical healing has meant much, the effort to gain a more spiritual understanding of God and of man as His image and likeness, and to awake to the necessity of overcoming in one's consciousness all that is unlike the Father, has brought some measure of realization of "the peace of God, which passeth all understanding." I am most deeply grateful to God, the Giver of all good, and to our beloved Leader for her marvelous gift to the world.
