Profitable Business

Business is good, for the only real business is God's business, and God is good. Bad business or lack of business, a belief which mortal mind is attempting to force on the world today, does not exist, because God provides infinite supply of good for all His creation, including man. Therefore, by knowing what God's business is and actively engaging in it, mankind can always find supply being made manifest.

The first recorded words of Jesus, spoken when Mary and Joseph found him in the temple, are noteworthy: "How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?" This indicates that from earliest youth he recognized that true activity must be in the service of his heavenly Father; and, later, his entire career was devoted to overcoming sickness, sin, and death, and teaching others to do likewise. Christian Science has revealed the fact that the truths he demonstrated are as applicable now as they were in Jesus' time. On page 494 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy says, "It is not well to imagine that Jesus demonstrated the divine power to heal only for a select number or for a limited period of time, since to all mankind and in every hour, divine Love supplies all good." Consequently, it is evident that through earnest study of Jesus' words and works in the light of Christian Science not only problems requiring physical healing, but also business problems, can be solved; and thus one learns that the only real business one can transact is the Father's business, which is always good and profitable.

The student of Christian Science knows that true wealth, which is synonymous with true supply, is purely spiritual and immeasurably great, proceeding directly from God, and is always known to spiritual man, the image and likeness of God. This wealth is evidenced here and now in proportion as human thought is spiritualized, in proportion as the old man is put off and the new man put on. In like manner, through right thinking, God's ideas are available to men. Wealth, then, as it is humanly measured in material terms, may be considered as symbolizing to human consciousness that which in reality exists as idea or true supply. That he might meet a human need, Jesus demonstrated his spiritual understanding of supply when he sent Peter to procure the tax money from the fish's mouth.
