[Written for the Sentinel]

God, Good, Is Supreme

Great God of justice, love, and power,
Whose presence fills the constant hour,
The birthright of each child of Thine,
Reflecting true the Mind divine,
Is that each conscious moment be
Replete with joyful harmony.

Thou sendest but refreshing rain,
The cooling breeze, the full ripe grain;
Thy will is ever what is good,
Thou ownest not a changing mood;
So, truly then, whate'er may seem
Unlike Thy presence is a dream.

The pain of years, the doubt and fear,
The weary day, the unshed tear—
Whence came they when they're not of Thee?
Then we must their false nature see.
O God of joy, Thou canst not fail,
Thou art supreme, Thou wilt prevail!
