Observer

Your recent issue contained a reference to Christian Science which we shall be glad if you will allow us to correct. A clergyman, in a lecture which he delivered at St. Mary Magdalen's Church, was reported as placing Christian Science under the category of "modern imitations of religion" hailing from America. Those who have studied the textbook of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, have recognized that the understanding of the words of Christ Jesus must necessarily bring about in human experience the healing works of Christianity, for "these signs shall follow them that believe." Those who have been healed of some disease or sin through Christian Science have proved conclusively that the truth taught by Jesus is the demonstrable truth for all mankind in every age; for he revealed to humanity once and for all everlasting facts regarding God and man, facts which can never pass away, and which, when understood, are seen to operate in the transformation of human concepts. No imitation of religion is Christian Science, but it is the revelation to this age of the religion of Christ Jesus in its entirety, and shows that the understanding of God and His laws which he taught, and which accomplished so unfailingly his incomparable healing works, may be comprehended and demonstrated, to-day as yesterday, in the overcoming of evil, of sin as well as of disease, according to his promise: "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
