My acceptance of Christian Science was the result of physical healing and mental illumination. At the age of twelve I joined the Episcopal church and found much in its teaching that I valued. Later, I felt obliged to abandon the church because of seeming contradictions in the Bible, I became an agnostic, and thought it impossible that I could ever again have a religious conviction. I met Christian Scientists and read some of their literature; but I was opposed to Mrs. Eddy, and did not want to be a mere follower. I became confused and unhappy, and saw no chart to guide me.

Then came the experience and the healing that accomplished my glad acceptance of Mrs. Eddy's teachings. I was ill, and the kindly physician who attended me was sleeping. In my extremity I said to myself that I would experiment with Christian Science. I commenced to repeat certain words that I knew expressed the teaching of Science. At first I repeated the words in a parrotlike manner. Then I looked at their meaning, and light came. I felt and saw and realized that my childhood's God had come back with healing power. The light was so vivid that pain was transformed into joy. In a few hours I wakened the physician. When I told him of my well-being, he thought I had lost my sanity. I said to him, "Now I know that I want an understanding of Christian Science."

Since that time Mrs. Eddy's books have helped me to understand the Bible. These have been my daily companions and best friends for about thirty years, and Christian Science has been my indispensable and always interesting physician and guide.—(Mrs.) ANNA H. BALL, Grand Rapids, Michigan.
