"Radical reliance on Truth"

When Jesus spoke to "those Jews which believed on him" and said, "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free," he left no doubt as to the efficacy of Truth as an unfailing remedy for human bondage, regardless of whether the bondage seemed hard, cruel, and merciless, or subtle, pleasant, and stupefying. Our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, was equally clear in pointing out the great fact that Truth is the omnipotent and available remedy for every earthly woe, when she declared in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 167), "Only through radical reliance on Truth can scientific healing power be realized."

Practically all persons who claim to be Christians will admit that Jesus was the master Christian, the Ensample, the Way-shower. The records of his remarkable healing works, as contained in the Holy Scriptures, show unmistakably that all of the healing accomplished by the greatest healer the world has ever known, was metaphysical healing, spiritual healing, the result of Truth understood.

It is sometimes said that on one occasion Jesus used material means in healing one afflicted with blindness, and the ninth chapter of John is referred to in substantiation of that claim. Now the story of the healing of the one who was born blind is familair to Bible students, and if it is studied thoughtfully a great lesson can be learned from it. The disciples, accepting sense-testimony as real, "asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?" Jesus, who was spiritually-minded enough, and too wise to judge according to material appearances, replied: "Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him." And the account continues: "When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, and said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam.... He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing."
