[Written for the Sentinel]

A Prayer

"Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips."—Psalms 141:3.

Guard Thou my lips,
That I may speak no ill
Of anyone;
And may I strive to fill
With love the hours
That I must spend to-day
With those who burdens bear
Along life's way.

And I would ask
That some dear child of Thine
Be made more glad
By this deep love of mine.
I would be kind,
Be tender, more like Thee;
Oh, help me live this prayer
More faithfully.
