The Wednesday Evening Testimony Meetings

What oases in the desert of human existence are the Christian Science testimony meetings! Just how far the good things are carried which are given out in their testimonies on Wednesday evenings, is beyond the ken of the donors. But that a vast amount of happiness, encouragement, and healing goes out from them is attested by the increasing numbers attending these gatherings and by the returning of the same persons to subsequent meetings. In fair weather or inclement, in heat or cold, in rain or hail, these meetings are found filled, ofttimes to overflowing, a constant source of wonder to observers who have not as yet learned the healing power of God's Word as taught in Christian Science.

Christian Scientists are such because the efficacy of this system of spiritual healing, whether in the overcoming of physical, financial, or moral ills, has been proved to them. In the first flush of victory, when some seemingly incurable disease has yielded to the might of Truth, the beginner in Christian Science may wish to shout it from the housetops; he may want all his friends to know about it; and when rebuffed, and often brusquely pushed aside, he may feel he has no outlet for his great gratitude.

Here, however, is an opportunity to tell his thankfulness to those who are hungering to hear about it. Any Wednesday evening the grateful one has an opportunity to give freely, as he has received freely; and he will always have this opportunity, for the Christian Science church has come to stay. What if fear tries to say he is not a polished speaker? What if error argues there are many older Scientists who can tell of other healings perhaps in a more scientific way? The smallest child, the most untutored person, is able here to offer drink to the weary traveler in the desert. It matters not whether it be given in tin basin or cup of pure gold, it is the contents, the cold water, the famished one needs. And when his vessels have been replenished with the life-giving water of Truth, the traveler goes on refreshed to his next stopping place with supply enough to last him, if he puts to right use his understanding of God.
