Among the Churches

Current Notes

Joliet, Illinois (First Church).—First Church of Christ, Scientist, has now opened its new church edifice at Second Avenue and Sherman Street. Last spring the members of the church passed a resolution to remodel the old structure. Plans were made and rebuilding commenced in September. The new building is of brick veneer with Bedford stone facings. In architecture it is typical of many Christian Science churches. A portico with four white pillars, extending two stories, adds beauty to the edifice. A large double door flanked by two smaller doors gives entrance to the main foyer connecting with the auditorium, seating approximately three hundred. On the west end of the building, behind the Reader's platform, a new addition provides rooms for the Readers and a meeting room for the trustees of the church. A special entrance has been supplied to this addition on Second Avenue. The ground outside of the edifice will be terraced in the spring to give the finishing touch to the appearance of the building.—Joliet Evening Herald-News.
