When quite a young child a story book of the Bible was...

When quite a young child a story book of the Bible was given me in which I became very much interested, and having been taught that the miracles therein were true, I often asked the question, Why are not these works possible to-day? My question was unanswered until later. After becoming interested in Christian Science I learned that they are indeed possible to-day to those who seek the truth with their whole heart. An erroneous statement in regard to Mrs. Eddy kept me from investigating Christian Science for many years; but I am happy to say that all prejudice left me after reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," because I was convinced that such wonderful words were given by divine inspiration, and a feeling of gratitude came to me for one who had so graciously given this book to the world.

Later, when I was suffering from a carbuncle on my neck, my sister advised me to call a Christian Science practitioner. This I did, and I shall never forget the words of encouragement given me. I was assured that the "word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." In a few minutes I was healed, and reaching for the Bible I opened it at the passage in Job which reads, "In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him." I was filled with gratitude not only for the relief from pain, but for the spiritual uplift and for the kind practitioner whose understanding of the truth, as taught by Mrs. Eddy, had brought about so complete a healing.

At another time it seemed necessary to have a tooth extracted. I called the practitioner, and she said, "Have no fear and you will be all right." When the dentist asked if I would have something injected, he seemed a little surprised that I refused. After extracting the tooth he remarked, "You are a game sport;" but to me it was one more proof of the all-power of God, for I had not experienced any pain, although the tooth had to be taken out in pieces.
