Grateful Receptivity

The student of Christian Science is not long in learning the valuable lesson that, as he enlarges his concept of giving, he gains more of true spiritual understanding. Giving is such an essential and beautiful condition of thought! And when the giving is done with the right motive,—when love, and joy, and gratitude are back of each gift, be the gift nothing more than a smile, or a kind word, or a helping hand in time of need,—who shall say what the benefit will be for all concerned? For is it not the fulfilling of the law of Love: "Give, and it shall be given unto you. . . . For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again"? As a loved hymn runs:

"Ceasing to give, we cease to have,
Such is the law of love."
