The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

Fitchburg, Massachusetts (First Church).

Lecturer: John J. Flinn: introduced by Walter S. Cross, who said:—

In his first epistle to the Corinthians Paul writes: "My speech and my preaching was not with words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: that your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power God." From the time of my earliest investigation of Christian Science I have never found in its teaching one thing that could possibly be classed as the "enticing words of man's wisdom;" but I have found much in its teaching, as have thousands of other, that has brought God, His goodness and His power, very near, thereby establishing one's faith, not in the wisdom of men, but in the demonstration of Spirit and the power of God in human experience Christian Science teaches that as Jesus Sermon on the Mount stands preeminently as the greatest moral and ethical code the world has ever known, so also Jesus' system of healing, as recorded in the Scriptures, stands unparalleled, as the divine method of healing, which can never honestly be ignored.
