[Written for the Sentinel]

Seeking and Finding

Teach me, O God, Thy way,
Let self be set aside,
Enable me
Thy Son to see,
My heart to open wide.

Search me, O God; Thine eye
Shall look my heart within,
And find in me
What Thou canst see,
The fruit of canceled sin.

Free me, O God, from all
That binds me to the earth.
Uplifted be
My thought to Thee
In throes of the new birth.

Help me, O God, to seek
Thy will and Thine alone;
My will shall be
Eternally
Submissive to Thine own.

Make me, O God, to be
A channel for Thy love;
That I may see
How instantly
Each lie to rise above.

Use me, O God, to-day
To heal the suff'ring thought
And help set free
Humanity
By thinking as I ought.

At last, O God, our thought,
When the last trump shall sound,
Ascended be,
Dear Lord with Thee
At-one; our true selves found.
