[Written for the Sentinel]

Our Greatest Need

O God, how may I speak of Thee?
No words of mine can tell Thy love;
My heart is filled with wondrous awe;
Thou fillest earth, and heav'n above!

Oh, help us, God, to understand,
To see Thee truly, face to face;
Ope wide our blinded eyes, that we
May see the glory of Thy grace.

Unstop our ears, to hear Thy voice;
Help us to listen for Thy call;
Oh, help us make Thy Word our choice,
And know Thee, God, as All-in-all.

Oh, satisfy the yearning heart,
Abide with us and be our guest;
And nevermore from us depart.
Give us Thy peace, that we may rest.

Impart to us the Life divine;
Dispel the night, and bring the day,
Thou joy of every struggling heart;
Christ is the Life, the Truth, the Way!
