[Written for the Sentinel]

The Dawn of Truth

The way seemed dark; I could not see
The light that on my pathway shone,
For fear and doubt encompassed me:
To mortal sense I walked alone.

The burden seemed so hard to bear;
But mortal thought said, "It is thine,
This load of worry, pain, and care."
I answered, "Yes; the task is mine."

At last, mid storm-clouds dark and gray,
When thought grew restless from its strife,
A "still small voice" said: "There's a way
That leads unto eternal Life.

"'T is here and now,—not far above,—
This way ye seek and try to find;
'T is just to trust the Father, Love;
The way of omnipresent Mind."

I listened to this gentle voice,
Which woke me from my dream of fear.
The truth had dawned; I could rejoice
For this great truth,—Love's presence here.

O Father-Mother God, most near,
In thanks I lift my thoughts to Thee;
May I so live that I shall hear,
Beloved son, thou art with me!"
