[Written for the Sentinel]

Onward!

He healed the sick, the hungry fed;
He stilled the tempest, raised the dead—
Faced evil's vengeance, calm and brave;
Nor tried at last himself to save,—
Because he knew!

He knew how perfect is God's plan;
He proved God's law doth govern man,—
Because he knew!

And then came one—so gentle, meek,
And pure of heart—his way to seek.
She faltered not; and her great love
For God and man, she needs must prove,—
Because she knew!
She found the Master's way to Life,
And proved, defying human strife,—
Because she knew!

Behold her fruitage far and near!
The vict'ry won for mankind here!
Thank God for him who blazed the way—
A light, that she might face the fray,
That we might know!
Then let us rise o'er error's din,
Rememb'ring what she did to win,
That we might know!
To-day, to us the Master pleads,
Come, follow me! The way Christ leads!
God's truth must reach where error lurks.
Rise, brethren, to the greater works,
That all may know!
Nor murmur, nor regret the fight,
But consecrate to God and right,
That all may know!
