Among the many blessings which I have received through the study of Christian Science I count the greatest of all the healing of depression. As a child in school, and later in life in my daily work, all was shadowed with heaviness and discouragement. My old religion helped to make this load still heavier, for it taught that there was nothing to hope for until after death. I had prayed long and seriously for this time to come, for I was weary of this earthly life. But, oh, the wondrous glory that presented itself at this time! A friend begged me to take Christian Science treatment. This treatment resulted in pointing the way to eternal Life. A feeling, which I would call "a foretaste of heaven," came to me in one of the nights during the treatment, with the words of Jacob, "Surely the Lord is in this place; and I knew it not." From then on I had a strong desire to live, and to search for more of this happiness.

I used every avenue through which I might gain help. At this time I was placed so that I could attend two Sunday services and every Wednesday evening testimony meeting, and visit the Reading Rooms. I also met many loving Christian Scientists, who helped me to find the upward way. This way gradually grew brighter. Shadows became weaker and joy stronger, my daily work becoming more of an enjoyment than a duty. During my first year of study I was healed of many bodily ailments. Rheumatism in the right shoulder and arm was destroyed during the study of the Bible Lesson on "Mind." The understanding of the words of Paul, "to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord," was so clear to me that I never felt the pain and lameness again. Boils and toothache disappeared. The fear of fainting spells was overcome during the silent prayer at a Sunday morning service. Ptomaine poisoning was completely healed in three days, and a serious skin disease in one week.

I certainly have received freely; and my desire is that I may give freely. It is comforting to know that in whatever form evil presents itself it comes up only to be destroyed, that we may be purified. I am grateful to God for the awakening from this material dream, which has come through Christian Science.
