The Lectures

Los Angeles, Calif. (Second Church).—John Randall Dunn, lecturer; introduced by Robert S. Stearns, who said in part:—

At the present time when the world is in a state of turmoil, the aftermath of the great war, as evidenced by strikes, cries of high cost of living, and such like, it is well to ponder and analyze the condition of thought which causes these things. It is evident that we do not understand God if we think that He has knowledge of all this evil, because we are told, "Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace;" that is, if we understand His nature to be, as John described it, "love," then it becomes clear to us that it is impossible to ascribe to Him the knowledge of anything but good. The Bible states that God is "of purer eyes than to behold evil," so we become convinced that this wrong condition comes from lack of understanding God.

Mrs. Eddy clearly foresaw these evils and she states in Science and Health (p. 223): "Marvels, calamities, and sin will much more abound as truth urges upon mortals its resisted claims; but the awful daring of sin destroys sin, and foreshadows the triumph of truth. God will overturn, until 'He come whose right it is.'" All we need to know is that truth will triumph, and our part in the triumph is to reflect truth instead of its opposite, error.
