My attention has been drawn to several slurring statements...

Halifax (England) Guardian

My attention has been drawn to several slurring statements in a recent issue with regard to Christian Scientists, who are there described as "financial" healers, drawing "money from people they are supposed to heal," and so forth. May I be permitted to point out that one of the tenets of the Christian Science church is as follows: "And we solemnly promise to watch, and pray for that Mind to be in us which was also in Christ Jesus; to do unto others as we would have them do unto us; and to be merciful, just, and pure" (Science and Health, p. 497). The by-laws of this church also provide (Manual, Art. VIII, Sect. 22) that a Christian Science practitioner "shall reasonably reduce his price in chronic cases of recovery, and in cases where he has not effected a cure. A Christian Scientist is a humanitarian; he is benevolent, forgiving, long-suffering, and seeks to overcome evil with good."

Thousands of people are healed by Christian Science and these very gratefully pay the fees charged, which are usually similar to those of an ordinary medical practitioner.
