For some time I have felt that I should add my testimony...

For some time I have felt that I should add my testimony of gratitude to God for Christian Science, more especially as it was through reading of another's experience that I was induced to seek relief through this truth. From childhood I was considered very delicate and my life was a series of physical difficulties, until, a few years before I became interested in Christian Science, it had become a hopeless search for health. I had run the gamut of material remedies, baths, electric treatments, travel, diet, and so on; indeed, in the words of Scripture, I "had suffered many things of many physicians...and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse." A serious surgical operation for an internal growth was declared to be the only means of relief, but I felt I would not survive this, as my physician did not give much hope because of my debilitated condition, said to be due to chronic catarrh of the stomach and nervous trouble.

In my despair I prayed to God for relief or death, and I know my prayer was heard, for at that time a testimony of healing through Christian Science came under my notice and I decided at once to investigate this teaching. Upon inquiry I found there was a church in this city, and on attending service I was met with much kindness. I briefly explained the object of my visit and was introduced to a gentleman who lived near us, who advised me to purchase a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and consented to give me treatment. I secured the book and read it continually, and the truth it contains filled a great void in my life. I had never accepted any other religion because of the doctrines of predestination, eternal punishment, and that God causes or permits evil. I felt such joy and peace in this revelation of God as Mind and as infinite good that I no longer noticed my physical condition, and when a few days later the neighbor who had taken an interest inquired as to my health, it suddenly dawned on me that I was healed. Needless to say I was fully convinced and accepted Christian Science as the truth. A few weeks after this, through my realization of the truth, my mother was healed in one treatment of a fractured limb from which she had suffered for nearly two months. All material help had failed her and poisoning had set in.

I am sincerely grateful for my first experiences in healing, for they have encouraged me to know, as Mrs. Eddy says on page 11 of "Unity of Good," that "Jesus required neither cycles of time nor thought in order to mature fitness for perfection and its possibilities." While my physical healing was complete, there have been many problems to work out and deep-rooted false beliefs to overcome, and this has required constand study of the Bible and of Mrs. Eddy's writings. I am most grateful to our Leader for our literature and for all the activities of the Christian Science church.
