Since taking up the study of Christian Science and finding...

Since taking up the study of Christian Science and finding that God is Love, I have learned to rejoice in the understanding of God and His relation to man. From infancy until March, 1913, I experienced few days of perfect health. Many physicians had treated me, and when all hope of restoring my health was gone, the physician who was then attending me said there was nothing left but to try Christian Science. Not knowing anything about this teaching, I wandered blindly on, trying several so-called "cures," only to find myself at last in the very "slough of despond," depending upon opiates as the only means of relief. All this while there was a longing to live a true Christian life, so when I at last realized there was no permanent help in material means, my heart cried out to God and my prayer was answered.

Just after this darkest hour I went to the public library one day, and selected from a shelf "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. After I had been reading this book for some time, the bowels which had not moved naturally for three years resumed their normal activity. This action without the use of drugs had been declared by several physicians to be impossible without an operation. As a further proof that those who earnestly seek God will find the true way, I was soon led to attend the Christian Science services, and was greatly strengthened each time. Then one morning, when about to take a dose of medicine, these words from Joshua came to me: "Choose you this day whom ye will serve." I chose to serve God, and soon all medicine had disappeared from my possession. With the exception of having once resorted to an opiate, which had but little effect, there has been no desire for drugs of any kind since. I have often been exposed to untoward conditions without any ill effect, and it has indeed been a pleasure to experience many days of healthy activity.

Another healing has meant a great deal to me because it was the result of having overcome resentment. In early childhood I received an injury which, because of a fracture in the knee-joint, left one leg shorter than the other. After studying Science for about eight months, I noticed that love was taking the place of resentment toward the relative whom I had always blamed for having indirectly caused the accident. The error in my thinking having been detected and destroyed, I then found it was possible for me to walk long distances without pain, without limping, and without an extension on my shoe.
